Too much sugar in soft drinks

About half of soft drinks fall short of a glass of Coke when it comes to sugar content. If you dilute Roosvicee according to recipe on the bottle, it contains only 10% less sugar than Coca-Cola. Caprisun clearly contains the least sugar with 3 sugar cubes per 250ml.

Zereau Syrups

  • Chocomel: 29.5 grams of sugar = 7.5 sugar cubes
  • Caprisun: 11 grams of sugar = 3 sugar cubes
  • Vifit: 16.5 grams = 4 sugar cubes
  • Coca-Cola: 26.5 grams of sugar = 6.5 sugar cubes
  • Roosvicee: 23.33 grams of sugar = 6 sugar cubes
  • Red Bull: 27.5 grams of sugar = 7 sugar cubes
  • Fristi: 19.75 grams = 5 sugar cubes

Sugar

Sugar provides your body with energy (calories), but it does not provide your body with necessary vitamins, minerals and fiber. Drinking sugary drinks can contribute to the development of obesity.

No distinction is made by the body between naturally occurring or added sugar. This applies to all types of sugar as well as honey, syrups and syrups. All sugars are processed by the body in the same way. They are broken down by the body into glucose, the body's "fuel," and provide the same amount of calories.

Drink plenty of water

So to avoid the risk of obesity, it is important not to drink too many sodas and other drinks that contain sugar. However, it is essential to keep drinking enough water. This has a positive effect on your health, concentration and energy. An overview of the healthy benefits of drinking water can be found in this article.

Make drinking water more fun

Treat yourself or surprise your dinner guests with one of these suggestions, or combine them yourself. Low-calorie, tasty and better for the environment than bottled soda.

  • Water with cucumber
Tip: Use a thin peeler for best effect
  • Tap water with raspberries
  • Water carafe with lime
  • Eau a la menthe (with a sprig of mint)
  • A carafe of water with orange
Tip: use a sharp knife to make long strands of the peel.

Claims

Beware! Some manufacturers put "no added sugars" on the label. This does not mean that there are no sugars in it. Usually there are sugars naturally present in a product. So always check how many sugars (often also referred to as carbohydrates) are in the product.

With a Zereau Drinks | KRNWTR+ water bottle you drink enough water and don't get any (hidden) sugars. In addition, your water stays cool for a long time in a Dutch Design stainless steel water bottle.

Sweeteners

What is stevia?
Stevia is a newcomer among sweet condiments. The leaves of stevia, a plant that grows in South America, taste wonderfully sweet; much sweeter than sugar. The European Union authorized stevia as a sweetener in late 2011. And is one of the few responsible sweeteners. You have to get used to the taste a bit and do not take more than the acceptable daily intake. This is 4 mg x kg body weight per day.

Are there other natural sweeteners?
Yes. Consider dried fruit, agave syrup and coconut palm sugar. These products often contain mostly fruit sugar (fructose); this, like table sugar, provides calories and raises blood sugar levels. Sugar = sugar.

Natural alternative

A sweet drink now and then can be delicious. And when consumed in moderation, it does not have to be a bad thing. Zereau Drinks | KRNWTR+ offers a sustainable alternative: 100% natural syrups. These are great to mix with both flat and sparkling water.

Labels

A label lists the ingredients used in the preparation of the product. This is done in descending order of quantity: whatever is at the top is in it the most.

Under the carbohydrate content is indicated how much of this is present as sugar. No distinction is made here between naturally occurring or added sugars.

  • Low sugar. The sugar content of the product is a maximum of 5 grams/100 grams or 2.5 grams/100 milliliters.
  • Sugar-free. The sugar content of the product is a maximum of 0.5 grams/100 grams or 0.5 grams per 100 milliliters.
  • With no added sugars. No sugars or sweeteners have been added to the product. If applicable, the product should say, "This product contains naturally occurring sugars."
